Robinhood subpoenaed by SEC over crypto listings and custody
Robinhood Markets revealed that it had received an investigation subpoena from the Foreign Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) covering the encrypted sale, escrow and platform operation of its digital currency business.
In a 10Muk document, the artist company said it referred to the subpoena for the investigation in December last year, a month after logging into the password trading center FTX to file for bankruptcy, and earlier in 2022, other key cryptocurrency trading markets and lending platforms, including Three Arrow Capital, Voyager Digital Holdings and Celsius Network, also went bankrupt.
Investigation subpoenas are not so much related to cryptocurrency sales and escrow services, which they say should be a response to last year's data encryption bankruptcy:
In December 2022, after the bankruptcy of Crypto in 2022, everyone received an investigation subpoena from SEC about the cryptocurrency encouraged by RHC, the escrow of cryptocurrency and the operation of the platform.
In April 2021, Robin Hood received a subpoena from the California Attorney General's office to provide information on the trading website, business processes and operations, customer asset trusteeship and coin listing of his data encryption unit.
On Aug. 2, the New York City Financial Information Services District imposed a $30 million penalty on Robin Hood's login password unit, mainly because the department was unable to "invest appropriate resources and focus to develop and maintain a compliance culture."
In August 2021, the artist company was also inspected by Missouri securities units on suspicion of targeting inexperienced investors.
The investigation subpoena is issued by the people's court at the request of another person or in kind, in order to obtain the necessary information and then decide whether to adopt laws and regulations against the person or entity line called orally.
Cointelegraph contacted Robin Hood, but the company declined to post about it.
